Altitude Gliding, Practical Skills, Experience & Airmanship Requirements

Planning: Insights, evaluations & decisions, making a flight plan.  
Pro-Flight routines: Repetition of Stage 1, spreading, adjustment, pre-flight checks.  
Takeoffs: Start position, final check, smooth acceleration, lift off at correct speed, good speed & directional control.
Speed Contol Manoeuvres: Best glide angle & minimum sink speed.
Turns: 90 - 180 degree, gentle to medium bank, left and right, co-ordinated.
Slow Flight: Recognition & recovery (at safe altitudes)
Ground Reference Manoeuvres: Figure 8-turns & rectangular patterns, correcting for wind-drift.
Traffic Rules: Manoeuvring according to other traffic.
Landing Patterns: Following planned procedure. Approach with downwind, base & final legs. Figure 8-turns. Control of gradient.
Turning & Landing: Only by the use of the rear risers (simulation of break line failure)
Precision Approaches & Landings: Safe & standing inside an area pre-set by the instructor. Slow flight & mushing is not allowed.
Written Exam: Minimum of 75%
Experience (to be verified from log)

* A minimum of 6 flying days

* A min of 30 successful flights of which at least 10 are altitude gliding flights

Airmanship Requirements:

The instuctor should be convinced that the student is able to take care of his own & others safety, while flying low or altitude gliding within the instructional and safety recommendations given.
